A rich and savory French onion soup topped with crispy turkey bacon that offers a delightful twist on a classic dish.

  • 4 cups sliced onions
  • 4 slices turkey bacon
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup dry white wine
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 slices of baguette
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, cook turkey bacon until crispy. Remove and set aside.
  2. In the same pot, melt butter with olive oil over medium heat.
  3. Add sliced onions, sugar, salt, and pepper. Cook until onions are caramelized and golden brown.
  4. Pour in white wine, scraping the bottom of the pot to deglaze.
  5. Add beef broth and bring to a simmer.
  6. Meanwhile, toast baguette slices until golden.
  7. Serve soup in bowls topped with a slice of toasted baguette and shredded Gruyère cheese. Broil until cheese is bubbly.
  8. Crumble crispy turkey bacon on top before serving.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, you can omit the bacon.
  • Feel free to add herbs like thyme for extra flavor.
