- 6 egg yolks
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup mascarpone cheese
- 2 cups strong brewed coffee, cooled
- 1/2 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
- 24 ladyfingers
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder, for dusting
- In a heatproof bowl, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until creamy.
- Place the bowl over a pot of simmering water and cook, whisking constantly, until thickened.
- Remove from heat and slowly whisk in milk until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, whip heavy cream until soft peaks form, then gently fold in mascarpone cheese.
- Combine coffee and coffee liqueur in a shallow dish.
- Dip each ladyfinger in the coffee mixture briefly and layer them in a dish.
- Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
- Add another layer of dipped ladyfingers, then top with the remaining mascarpone mixture.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Before serving, dust with cocoa powder.
