  • 1 packet active dry yeast

  • 1 egg, beaten
  • coarse salt for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour and salt, mixing until dough forms. Knead for 5 minutes.
  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.
  4. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  5. Divide the dough into 8 pieces and shape each into a pretzel.
  6. Boil water and baking soda in a large pot. Boil each pretzel for 30 seconds and place on a baking sheet.
  7. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
